St. Louis Rams assistant head coach Dave McGinnis reflects on Week 10 tie as team prepares for New York Jets
St. Louis Rams had a strange finish to the excitement-filled Week 10 game against San Francisco 49ers. The outcome surprised both teams alike, but the important thing for them is how they respond to it in their respective next games.
Rams, a team at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) West, gave very tough time to the division leaders 49ers. Rams gained an early lead and maintained it for quite some time.
When the 49ers hit back, they could only level the score in the regulation, forcing the game to overtime during which both teams missed an opportunity each to seal a victory and hence the game ended in a tie.
Rams are now going to face New York Jets in Week 11, but the memories of last week’s game are still drawing emotional reactions.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Rams assistant head coach Dave McGinnis has also shared his views regarding the outcome of the last week’s game and he, too, has expressed the same feelings like other officials and players. He said:
“We know that we did enough good things to win the game, but clearly we did enough things to keep us from winning the game also. It was a strange feeling, but you don’t come out of there with the elation of winning the ball game. But, you don’t come out
of there with the near death feeling you have every time you lose a ball game. I didn’t know how to feel.”
He added:
“As I’ve said, I’ve been in over 400 NFL games, I’ve never experienced that and it was a h**l of a football game.”
The Rams have very little or no hopes reaching the playoffs this season but they have not given up. They ended their three-game losing streak with a tie against 49ers, but a win is still awaited.
With seven more games left in the regular season, the Rams want to win them all to have a solid finish to the season. They can start by dominating the Jets, who, too, are struggling to perform well even though they have a better roster than the Rams.
