St. Louis Rams await NFL’s decision on Gregg Williams – NFL News Update
St. Louis Rams have refrained from presenting their stance on the infamous ‘pay for performance’ strategy introduced by their defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, when he was with New Orleans Saints.
An investigation carried out by National Football League (NFL) has revealed that Williams used to entice his players to hit the opponents by offering them monetary rewards during his stay at New Orleans.
It was also reported that Saints’ general manager and head coach were aware of this malpractice.
After the reports were surfaced, Williams also issued an apology, but it is expected that he might face more serious punishments than just being facing embarrassment.
He also met with league officials to discuss the matter on Monday.
Williams parted ways with Saints and joined Rams this year. He reportedly has close ties with Rams’ head coach, Jeff Fisher.
As the league continues its investigation, Rams think that it is better not to interfere in the matter until the league announces its verdict.
Rams’ vice president and chief operating officer, Kevin Demoff, said:
"Coach Williams has shown contrition for his actions and continues to cooperate with the NFL in this investigation. Out of respect for the NFL's ongoing process, we will refrain from commenting until the league has come to a final decision on all aspects
of this matter."
Rams’ general manager, Les Snead, also echoed the same sentiments and said that Rams would take the matter into their hands after the league is done with dealing this issue.
He said:
“Right now, it's a league matter. That's an ongoing investigation, and we're not going to comment on it until that investigation is resolved."
According to different reports, the league might suspend Williams. This decision will certainly come as a serious blow to the Rams, who have just finished revamping their front office.
Following the awful NFL 2011-12 season, Rams fired their then head coach and general manager and brought a lot of changes in coaching subordinates as well.
Now if Williams get suspended, Rams will have to make some serious adjustments but Snead seems ready for them.
He said:
"In life, whether you're in the NFL, whether you're a football team ... you have to be prepared for adversity and you better bet able to adjust.”
Snead’s remarks imply that he is ready to deal with whatever decision the league reaches on Williams, but the Rams have not spilled the beans yet and have not told about their stance on the matter.
