St. Louis Rams’ general manager Les Snead has slight interest in hiring quarterback in draft–NFL News
When St. Louis Rams decided to trade their second overall pick for the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft with Washington Redskins, it was apparent that the management was planning on continuing with the team’s regular quarterback, Sam Bradford, for
at least the next season.
With eight picks in hand for the draft, which will start on Thursday, April 26 and end on Saturday, April 28, Rams’ general manager, Les Snead, has said that the management has not ruled out the possibility of selecting a quarterback in the draft.
However, it does not mean that Rams are lacking faith in Bradford. Instead, they could use the new quarterback to fulfil other professional interests.
Rams could trade the new quarterback later with any other team and get what they want in return.
Whatever the case maybe, Snead has not yet spilled the beans on the matter. Although he did acknowledge that the management was considering hiring a quarterback, he refrained from providing more information, saying that the matter should be kept in-house.
“Here’s what I will tell you is, I’ll keep our business with other teams in-house. But like in all drafts in the NFL, everybody weighs the quarterback position maybe more heavily than others and probably rightly so.”
It has been widely believed that the first two picks will be quarterbacks. Indianapolis Colts’ who owns the first pick, have already confirmed selecting Stanford’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, and Washington Redskins, who have the second pick, are going to
hire Baylor’s quarterback, Robert Griffin III (RG3).
While acknowledging that quarterbacks will dominate the early picks of the draft, Snead said:
“Obviously, there will probably be two quarterbacks taken with the first two picks and there’s a debate on whether there’s a third one who should be taken next and because of that situation, yes, there has been slight interest but I’m going to keep that
in-house.”
Earlier, Rams’ head coach, Jeff Fisher also discussed draft plans with media and said that even after trading the second overall pick, the management could trade more picks to serve its interest.
When asked about Bradford’s performance, Fisher said that the draft hiring could also affect the quarterback’s performance as the new players would be expected to complement Bradford.
