St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher devises strategy for Dallas Cowboys game – NFL News
After starting their preseason campaign on a disappointing note, the St. Louis Rams did well to rebound in the second preseason game. However, they are now going to face another tough opponent in their third preseason game and head coach Jeff Fisher has
devised an interesting strategy for it.
Rams were defeated by Indianapolis Colts in the preseason opener, but they hit back and defeated Kansas City Chiefs in the second game with their quarterback Sam Bradford performing pretty well.
As the Rams prepare to take on Dallas Cowboys now, Fisher understands that the Cowboys are coming with a strong defensive strategy. Apart from protecting Bradford, Fisher’s plan focuses on giving more playing time to young players.
Generally, teams introduce their starters in the third and fourth preseason games. These starters mostly play the second half of the game and assuming that the Cowboys are going to do the same, Fisher has decided to introduce his backup players in the second
half.
This will help him in two ways. First, it will prevent Bradford from facing the Cowboys starters and hence he will be able to avoid serious hits. Second, it will help the youngsters gain quality experience as they will be up against some of the best players.
If some of them perform well, the management might even consider adding them to the regular season squad.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Fisher said of his plans for the Cowboys game:
“I think, we’re going to have to hold up. Dallas, I’m sure, is determined to get ready for the opener and use Week 3, so we’re going to have to hold up and play well and play hard.”
Fisher added:
“The guys are…we’re going to have to protect our quarterback because they’re very multiple on defence. Rob (Ryan) is a good coordinator and he is going to pressure the passer and they’re going to try to stop the run and do all those things, so we’ve got
quite a challenge ahead of us.”
Fisher’s strategy could yield good results in the longer run, but it can affect the result of the Cowboys game. However, Rams are focused on the regular season and seems ready to face tough results in the preseason.
