St. Louis Rams’ head coach Jeff Fisher discusses draft plans – NFL News
After completing the last National Football League (NFL) season on a disastrous note, which compelled the franchise ownership to dismiss its general manager and head coach, St. Louis Rams earned a second round pick for the 2012 draft, but the new general
manager and the head coach amicably agreed to trade their pick.
In the first round of the draft, Rams have now got sixth overall pick, which they acquired from Washington Redskins after trading their second pick.
With just a few hours left in the beginning of this year’s draft, Rams’ head coach, Jeff Fisher, has shared the franchise’s plans for the draft.
Rams have got a total of eight picks in the draft. Apart from the sixth pick in the first round, they two picks in second round (33rd and 39th overall), one pick in third round (65th overall), one pick in fourth round (96th
overall), one pick in sixth round (171st overall) and two picks in seventh round (209th and 252nd overall).
Even though Rams have traded their second pick, they could also trade their sixth overall pick of the first round.
According to Fish, Rams could even trade the pick up or down or they might even stay where they are. Hence, the management is open to all options.
While acknowledging that there are some voids to fill through draft, Fisher asserted that Rams have already addressed plenty of their needs through the free agency. He said:
“With the eight picks, we feel like we have a pretty good chance of filling some holes. We’ve discussed that and it’s going to take some time. At this point, we’re happy with where we are. Because we feel like we definitely filled some needs through pro
free agency.”
At the same time, Fish also said that hiring players through draft does not mean that the team is short of good and talented players.
He commented:
“There are needs on this roster, doesn’t mean to say we don’t have good players and we’re not going to win games with the guys we got because a lot of guys right now that we have on this roster have improved significantly just in the last two or three weeks.”
