St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher looking forward to preseason opener – NFL News
After winning all four of their preseason games last season, the St. Louis Rams lost six games in the regular season before getting their first victory. The Rams finished the season 2-14 and it looked like the successful preseason campaign did not help them
a bit.
As the Rams prepare for the start of the 2012 season campaign with a preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, a lot has changed for them as compared to the last year.
The dismal season resulted in firing of general manager and head coach. Les Snead was appointed new GM while Jeff Fisher took the job of head coach. Rams also traded down their second overall pick in this year’s draft, intending to fill their roster with
more players.
They have kept faith in their quarterback Sam Bradford while the addition of more players on the roster seems to have taken care of their injury woes.
Nevertheless, it is a challenging task for Fisher to improve the team’s record, but the head coach is upbeat about the upcoming season, especially the preseason opener that will give the first view of the Rams’ refurbished unit.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Fisher said:
“As far as the first preseason game, we’re looking forward to watching them play. We want to see the rookies respond under pressure, which there is obvious pressure in the first one. You stay somewhat basic. You don’t try to out-scheme somebody and spend
all this time, you want to see them block and tackle, you want to see them execute the fundamentals against a good opponent.”
After facing the Colts on Sunday, August 12, the Rams are going to play three more preseason games. They will take on Kansas City Chiefs on August 18, Dallas Cowboys on August 25, and Baltimore Ravens on August 30. Rams will start their regular season campaign
on September 09 with a game against Detroit Lions.
Fisher has got a clearly strategy for the preseason games. He said:
“What you want to do through the preseason is not give up a lot of points, keep the penalties down, protect the football, block and tackle and execute and let the score take care of itself.”
