St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher praises veteran Mario Haggan – NFL News
St. Louis Rams head coach, Jeff Fisher, has prised the presence of recently-acquired linebacker, Mario Haggan, in the locker room, saying that his experience is very beneficial for the young players on the roster.
Rams have recently selected Haggan, who became a free agent after parting ways with the Denver Broncos.
Haggan, who is entering his 10th year of the professional National Football League (NFL) career, has played at multiple positions including outside and inside linebacker and special teams.
He started his professional career in 2003 with the Buffalo Bills, who utilised his services mostly at special teams.
In his rookie season, he played only one game for the Bills, but got playing time in all the games since his second season.
After serving Bills for five years, Haggan joined the Denver Broncos in 2008.
In his first season with the Broncos, he continued to be a member of special teams and played eight games. However, he became the starting linebacker since his second season with the Broncos.
In 2009, he played and started 16 games in the regular season in which he registered a total of 63 tackles and 1.0 sack.
In 2010, his performance was even better as he recorded a total of 87 tackles and 5.0 sacks in 16 games of the regular season.
Last year, however, his role was once again limited as he was once again asked to serve mostly on the special teams.
Now after joining the Rams, Haggan could play at special teams or any other linebacker position and Fisher thinks that the player will add great value to the defence.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Fisher said of Haggan:
“Mario’s played very well in that system. We worked him out last week and he brings a veteran presence to our defence. He’s a strong outside linebacker and in addition to that, he’s a very talented special teamer. A great guy for the locker room and gives
us some experience at that position.”
On the other hand, Haggan is also ready to help the young players. He said:
“We have a lot of young guys that need someone with experience who can show them how to do it and I’ll be there for that.”
