St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher regrets missing opportunities against Miami Dolphins – NFL News
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has regretted missing many scoring opportunities during Week 6 loss against Miami Dolphins on Sunday, October 14, despite playing well for most part of the game.
The Rams were far better than the Dolphins, who were not statistically better than the former.
The loss also ended Rams’ two-game winning streak and has kept them at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West. Also, they have played six games this season and have not been able to win any away game.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Fisher said of the defeat against Dolphins:
“We had a lot of opportunities today to win this game and we didn’t do it, particularly in the first half. (It’s) disappointing but the effort was outstanding. This team played hard and had a chance to tie it up and couldn’t get it done.”
After getting the lead early in the game, the Rams allowed Dolphins to accelerate and get hold of the game. When the final quarter started, Rams were trailing by 11 points. They scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion to reduce the deficit to only
three points.
In the final play, Rams seemingly had no option but to introduce kicker Greg Zuerlein for 66-yard field goal attempt.
Fisher though it was better to introduce the kicker rather than initiating a playing drive on fourth down as there was not much time left on the clock.
A score from the kicker would have levelled the score and sent the game to overtime, but Greg missed the chance and Rams got their third defeat of the season.
Fisher still thinks that introducing Greg was a right call. He said:
“We had a good wind. The odds of Greg making that kick from that distance, I thought were much greater than us converting that fourth down. I didn’t think about it. I counted off and knew it was 65, 66 and he’s got that kind of leg.”
Rams’ next two games are scheduled on home. They will host Green Bay Packers in Week 7 and New England Patriots in Week 8.
