St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher regrets second-quarter failures against Miami Dolphins – NFL News
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has regretted his team’s failures in the second quarter of Week 6 game against Miami Dolphins.
Rams lost the game with a close margin of three points and Fisher thinks that along with controlling some other minor errors, the players must focus on improving their performance in second quarters.
Generally, the players are asked to finish strong, but there is no denying that second quarter also carries great importance as it provides a team a chance to enter halftime with lead.
In Rams’ case against Dolphins, that did not happen and Rams were in fact a bit lucky to get away rather easily with the number of flaws they exposed in the second quarter.
After scoring two field goals and not allowing any scoring move from opponents in the first quarter, Rams gave away their lead in the second quarter in which Dolphins scored 10 points.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Fisher said of the defeat:
“When you lose a close game by a field goal, there’s little things that contribute and there were some little things. But to me, there was also a big thing that contributed to this loss and that was the second quarter.”
He added:
“In the second quarter, we had seven penalties, missed two field goals and turned the ball (over) inside our territory on the 25-yard line. So we were lucky to get away with (giving up) 10 points in the second quarter.”
Fisher said of kicker Greg Zuerlein who missed the field goals:
“He’s very mature. He’s going to get through it. He’s made a lot of kicks for us already.”
Rams have already beaten their last season’s miserable 2-14 record by winning three of their six games this season. Although they are placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West, they can certainly have a say in shaping up the division
standings towards the end of the season.
As the head coach has pointed out, there a number of areas for Rams to improve, but some important aspects, like their second-quarter failures, just take the game away.
