St. Louis Rams meet Lake Dawson and Les Snead for the vacant post of general manager – NFL News
While St. Louis Rams await a decision from former Tennessee Titans’ coach, Jeff Fisher, regarding the head coaching vacancy, their hunt for a new general manager for the franchise is still underway.
In this regard, Tennessee Titans’ vice president of football operations, Lake Dawson, and Atlanta Falcons’ director of player personnel, Les Snead, visited the Rams' facility on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, and met with the franchise’s chief operating officer/vice
president of football operations, Kevin Demoff.
A day earlier, the Rams also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles’ director of player personnel, Ryan Grigson, after spending last week meeting different coaching candidates.
All the candidates toured the Rams’ facility and met with different staff members.
The hunt for new personnel began when the Rams fired their head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, and general manager, Billy Devaney, following an awful performance in the regular season, in which they could only win two games.
Now for their front office, Rams want to introduce a new face, who has a knack of identifying talent and brings it to St. Louis.
“We are looking for people who can have strong opinions, who understand both pro and college scouting and who can help build the department and work well with the head coach,” Demoff said.
“As we look for a GM candidate, we want someone who really understands how you acquire players in the NFL, how you scout them and who also understands the draft,” Demoff added.
Lake Dawson might be Rams' primary choice as he has spent time with the Titans and has a good understanding with Fisher, who is expected to pick Rams over Miami Dolphins for the head coaching position.
Dawson is currently responsible for managing all day-to-day football operations, training and scouting related affairs at Tennessee, placed next to general manager, Mike Reinfeldt, in terms of hierarchal level.
Before that, he served the franchise for four years as director of pro scouting.
On the other hand, Snead who is renowned for his ability to recognise and nurture new talent might also fit into the role of Rams' new general manager.
Presently, he is in charge of all the scouting related affairs at Atlanta.
Chicago Bears and Indianapolis have also expressed interest in appointing Snead in their front office, but he has not yet given a final word about his destination.
Meanwhile, ESPN has also reported that Rams are going to interview Denver Broncos' defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, for the head coaching vacancy on Thursday.
After serving as secondary coach in New Orleans, Allen joined the Broncos in 2011.
The ideal choice for Rams still remains a Fisher-Dawson combination, both having expertise in their respective fields and having worked together before at Tennessee.
However, Rams are keeping all their options open and want to interview all the possible candidates before reaching a final decision.
The Rams are expected to announce the new coach and GM within 10 days.
