St. Louis Rams might trade their second draft pick to the highest bidder – NFL News
St. Louis Rams’ unsuccessful National Football League (NFL) season brought them humiliation and criticism from every corner, but there was one good thing that happened as a result of the failure – Rams got the second overall pick in the next NFL drafts.
Now with only one advantage in hand, the management wants to extract all the possible gains out of it.
Rams can avail that option in multiple ways, but some recent reports have suggested that a decision has been reached.
Different reports quoting sources indicated on Monday, February 27, 2012, that Rams are going to trade their pick with any other franchise of the league.
The newly appointed general manager, Les Snead, had earlier said that he would evaluate all the options before reaching a decision.
He said:
“And with that second pick, I think you ask the question because just like you, we realise there are many options with that pick. Here’s what I will tell you, we will be well prepared to take advantage of any option presented. Whether it’s trading the pick
or picking a player at that pick.”
The Rams had earlier stated clearly that they would not utilise the trade pick to hire a quarterback.
Apparently, quarterback is usually the most sought after player and the low ranked team would trade heavily to get the pick.
The top two prospects in the upcoming drafts are quarterbacks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.
It is expected that Indianapolis Colts, who have the first overall pick, will select Luck to replace or play behind veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, who sat out of the last season owing to a neck injury.
In his absence Colts lost 14 out of their 16 games in the regular season and hence earned the first pick.
Rams too had a miserable season with the same record as Colts’ and the management fired the then head coach and general manager after the season.
The new general manger and the head coach opted to retain the quarterback, Sam Bradford, and hence it was clarified that Rams would not hire any other quarterback.
According to different reports, Rams had made their mind to sing RG3 and then later trade him to any other franchise, but the recent reports have said otherwise.
Rams are willing to compromise their draft pick to the highest bidder.
They could trade two or more draft picks from any other franchise by offering them an opportunity to select RG3.
Rams are in discussion with Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins and are also open to negotiating with other teams as well.
