St. Louis Rams outscore Seattle Seahawks as Greg Zuerlein shines – NFL Recap
St. Louis Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein scored four field goals and set a couple of records as his team outscored Seattle Seahawks, 19-13, in Week 4 game on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis.
Zuerlein scored a 58-yard goal in first quarter, setting a club record, which was later improved when he got a 60-yard goal in third quarter.
It was Rams’ second victory of the season, giving a strong impression that they could stage much better performance than last season.
After four games, Rams are seemingly heading into the right direction, thanks to their new players, especially Zuerlein, who also became the first player in the history of the National Football League (NFL) to score field goals from 60-yard and 50-plus-yard
in the same game.
He said after the game:
“It was a good game. Anytime you can make all your field goals and PATs, it’s a good day. I need to work on the kickoffs still but not too bad.”
Seahawks, who had come off a two-game winning streak, started the game well and got an early score, thanks to an 18-yard run from Marshawn Lynch. However, they could not maintain that lead and while their offence struggled to generate more scoring drives,
their defence allowed Rams to accelerate.
Rams got a field goal in first quarter, reducing the deficit to four points only.
In second quarter, Rams got a touchdown through a surprising move that completely shocked the Seahawks. Rams faked a field goal attempt as punter Johnny Hekker sent a two-yard touchdown pass to Danny Amendola.
After getting the lead, Rams further strengthened their edge by scoring a field goal in the quarter.
Both teams scored a field goal each in third quarter as Seahawks entered the final quarter six points behind Rams.
The visitors scored a field goal to reduce the lead to just three points, but Rams got another field goal to gain the decisive edge over Seahawks.
Rams quarterback Sam Bradford finished the game completing 16 of his 30 passes for 221 yards while throwing one interception.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had a miserable day on the field. After an astounding preseason, the rookie is struggling to find his rhythm in the regular season. He completed 17 of his 25 passes for 160 yards and sent three interceptions.
Seahawks are now 2-2 and placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West. Wilson said after the game:
“We just want to look at the film; see what we can do better, see what I can do better. Just learn from it. Move on. That game will help us down the road.”
Rams are now going to face Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 game, while Seahawks will take on Carolina Panthers.
