St. Louis Rams pull off upset to beat New Orleans Saints in week 8 – NFL Recap
St. Louis Rams managed to pull off one of the major upsets in the current season of the American football’s premier league, National Football League (NFL), as they inflicted a 31-21 defeat over rivals New Orleans Saints in their
weekend game on Sunday, October 30th.
The win had come as a surprise for the Rams themselves as nothing had indicated before the game that they were capable of upsetting a combination put up by the Saints. All odds were set against them. However, the match results
proved otherwise. This was the Rams’ first win of the season.
This was the first win for Rams as all of the five games they had played in the current season lost all. They had gone into the game 0-5.
The main difference in the two sides was Steven Jackson who scored twice to ensure that Rams come out as victorious.
Jackson said he was up at the middle of night on the eve of the match, saying he was tired of the losing streak and decided to tell his team players that “enough is enough.”
“I think the Cardinals being here was great for the city,” he said. “Whoever showed up today, regardless if the place was empty, today was the day. We came out with a mind-set we were going to fight.”
The Saints before this loss were 5-3 in their Northern Football Conference. This win could have improved their rating in the current season of NFL. Despite being favourites against the Rams before going into the game they never
got on the track.
It was the “weak” defence line of the Rams highlighting the poor show by the Saints. Although the Rams’ defence is ranked low in the NFL, the Saints’ offence could never pick against them. Even Rams fans could hardly believe the
way the Saints offence line was being blocked, despite having one of the best line-up in NFL.
The Rams now at (1-6) had the highest number sacks in the season. The first quarter with no scoring but a plenty of action was tough for both teams. With two defences fired up pressured surmounted on the quarterbacks from the both
sides.
It was Josh Brown who managed a kick a 38-yard field goal. The Rams defence then sacked Dew Brees before they blocked the punt to get the offence.
The Saints at one point looked if they would threaten their opposition. They had received a fumble for touchdown, scoring another through Pierre Thomas. However, the Rams soon intercepted another touchdown by Brees before wrapping
up a stunning win against the Saints.
