St. Louis Rams’ quarterback Sam Bradford knew he would be the starter next season – NFL News
St. Louis Rams’ quarterback, Sam Bradford, has said that he knew even before the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft that the management would not replace him and he would be the team’s starter in the upcoming season.
While talking to the NFL Network on Tuesday, May 08, 2012, Bradford said that the management had already informed him even before the draft that he would be the starting quarterback for the 2012 season.
Bradford made his NFL debut in 2010 with Rams. In his rookie season, his performance was very impressive as he played all 16 games of the regular season in which he completed a total of 354 passes of 590 attempts for 3,512 yards. He also threw 18 touchdowns
and his passes were intercepted 15 times.
Last year, however, he struggled with form and fitness. He could only play 10 games and gained a total of 2,164 passing yards while throwing six touchdown passes and six interceptions.
The quarterback said of his last season’s performance:
“I think obviously it was a rough year. It was a tough year, mentally and physically. But I think I learned a lot, you know, about myself, about what it takes to win in this league and just how hard it is. I'm going to try to use everything I learned last
year in a way to help us win games this year."
After the season in which the Rams only won two games, the ownership dismissed the general manager and head coach and brought new faces in the front office. Bradford’s position was also in jeopardy and it was expected that Rams would release him.
However, when Jeff Fisher took the responsibilities as Rams’ new head coach, he met with Bradford and assured him that he would be the starter in the 2012 season.
Bradford said:
"Pretty much from the beginning, they told me that I was their guy and that I had no reason to worry about them taking a quarterback in this draft."
Rams had a second overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and they could have selected a quarterback. However, they traded down their pick with Washington Redskins who selected Robert Griffin III (RG3).
Later, they further traded that pick down with the Dallas Cowboys.
