St. Louis Rams rubbish Steven Jackson’s trade rumours – NFL News
The St. Louis Rams have rubbished the reports claiming that the management was seeking to trade running back, Steven Jackson, with any other franchise of the National Football League (NFL).
Rams’ head coach, Jeff Fisher, has presented a strong stance over the reports and declared them as ‘rumours’. However, he did not comment on whether the Rams were planning on trading Jackson.
Earlier, different reports suggested that Rams, who have sixth pick in the first round of the NFL 2012 Draft, will select another running back, Trent Richardson.
The team did not deny having interest in Richardson, but the management did not intend to replace Jackson with Richardson.
Interestingly, Jackson also extended a helping hand to the team and said that he would be ready to train and mentor Richardson if the management decided to draft him.
However, nothing was said around Jackson’s trade.
Although Jackson reportedly was seeking a new long-term contract with the team, he did not hint at moving to any other franchise of the league.
With so much going on with Rams, Jackson’s trade reports have shocked the management and even the player is said to have been ‘taken aback’ by hearing the news of his trade.
Not only that, Fisher has also rubbished all the reports and said that the team was not interested in Richardson.
Fisher said of Richardson:
"We talk about the potential ways of improving the roster, but his name has not been floated out there."
When asked to present his views about the reports relating to Jackson’s trade, Fisher commented:
"Rumors. Steven is here, he is in the offseason programme. He's upstairs every other day. He's doing great and having fun learning the offense. No discussion, conversation or anything along that sort to my knowledge."
Jackson is one of the best running backs Rams have ever had. He has only played for Rams throughout his career and apart from his rookie season in which he rushed for 673 yards, he has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the next seven seasons.
Rams have a total of eight picks in the draft, which is going to start on Thursday, April 26 and end on April 30.
