St. Louis Rams start hunt for new coach and general manager – NFL News
Soon after firing Coach Steve Spagnuolo and General Manager Billy Devaney following a dreadful season, St. Louis Rams have started looking for new faces to replace the former ones.
In this long address to media on Monday, Rams’ Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff discussed in detail the franchise’s plans about selecting new people.
He informed that he had started assembling a list of possible candidates and would approach all of them this week, hoping that the new coach and general manager would take the Rams to new heights.
The Rams are also going to form an advisory board which will comprise of experts including former Coach d**k Vermeil and Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk.
According to different reports, former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher is emerging as one of the most favourable candidate. Demoff also acknowledged that the Rams were planning to approach Fisher, but he maintained that other candidates will also be considered.
Coincidentally, Fisher is represented by agent Marvin Demoff, who is Kevin Demoff’s father, but the COO maintained that the father-son relationship is not going to affect the selection process. He asserted that he would do what is in the interest of the
franchise.
“He is someone who is a potentially attractive candidate,” Demoff said about Fisher. “But I think the one thing to caution is everybody assumes that because my father represents Jeff Fisher that we are a natural fit. His job is to represent Jeff Fisher;
our job is to find the right head coach for the Rams. If those two intersect, that would be fantastic. If they don’t intersect, we will do the right thing for our respective clients and our respective organisations and then move forward.”
Demoff also informed that his job is only limited to formulating a list of candidates. The final decision, he said, will be made by the Rams’ Owner, Stan Kroenke.
As far as assistant coaches are concerned, Demoff said that the new coach will interview all the present staff and it would be his prerogative to select the people who would work under them. At the moment, Rams’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the
only staff whose contract will be expired after February.
Meanwhile, different reports suggest that the Rams are planning to bring on a relatively young general manager, who would team up with a veteran coach to run the affairs.
As long as the new GM is not appointed, all the personnel decisions will be made by Vice President of Player Personnel, Mike Williams.
