St. Louis Rams to announce Jeff Fisher’s appointment– NFL News Update
St. Louis Rams will officially announce the appointment of former Tennessee Titans’ coach, Jeff Fisher, as the franchise’s new head coach on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
According to different reports, the announcement will be made during a press conference, in which Fisher will also discuss his plans about shaping up the structure of the team.
Jason La Canfora of the National Football League (NFL) Network reported, while quoting a source, that the Rams and Fisher have agreed to a five-year deal.
The appointment of Fisher has come after the dismissal of former head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, who along with the franchise’s general manager, Billy Devaney was fired, following a poor season in which Rams won only two games.
Fisher was also approached by Miami Dolphins for their head coaching vacancy, but the veteran coach, after mulling over his options, ended up joining hands with the Rams.
Among many reasons for Fisher to join the Rams, one is said to be the fact that his agent, Marvin Demoff, is the father of Kevin Demoff, who also happens to be the chief operating officer and executive vice president of the franchise.
However, Fisher strictly denied that the relationship had to do anything in the decision making process and said that he is joining Rams after objective analysis of all the related aspects.
He also said that his agent helped him reach a decision and assisted him as a professional should do.
“From (Day 1), when I began this process after the season, I felt Miami and St. Louis were my best options. I did my research. I looked at every team that had an opening. I looked at the personnel on each team, I looked at the owners, I looked at the cap
situations, and I narrowed it to two. Not Marvin. Me. Marvin didn't push me. I am convinced he was completely objective".
Meanwhile, Rams have also hired New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, to serve at the same post for them.
No official announcement has been made in this regard, but it is expected that this appointment will also be announced in Tuesday’s press conference.
Williams has also worked under Fisher when both of them were with the Titans.
Their reunion might help develop a good atmosphere in the training camps and extract maximum gains out of them.
