St. Louis Rams to fire Coach Steve Spagnuolo and General Manager Billy Devaney – NFL News
St. Louis Rams Owner Stan Kroenke is planning to fire Coach and Steve Spagnuolo and General Manager Billy Devaney, according to different reports emerging after the end of a dreadful season for the franchise.
As per ESPN, both of them could be sent packing within a day or two.
The Rams had a nightmare this season. They ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference West division after managing only two victories in 16 games. Not to forget a seven-game losing streak, which they still carry.
Spagnuolo has spent three seasons with the Rams. Unfortunately, he could not life the Rams up and could get the franchise only 10 victories in 38 games.
In 2009 when Spag coached the Rams for first time, the result was more than miserable. The Rams were defeated 15 times and won only one game in the season.
The next year, Spag improved his record as the Rams registered seven victories and faced nine defeats.
Starting this year, when everyone was expecting much improved performance, Spag’s slump has raised many questions on his ability to coach a team.
He had earlier said that he had no plans of leaving the franchise saying that his hear is with the Rams. He also said that he wanted the Rams to win a Super Bowl.
“You know, when I came here, this was never about me ... I was very blessed to share an experience in New York where we won a Super Bowl (XLII) and have that ring that everybody's shooting for. I came here in hopes that the people here would be able to experience
that.”
Following a defeat against San Francisco 49ers 34-27 in the regular season finale, the Rams coach still sounded optimistic.
Except for the final quarter, where they displayed an impressive game-play by scoring 17 points against a sturdy defence, the Rams were totally outclassed. But Spag seems to always focus on brighter side of the picture.
"I don't go there. I think you know me well enough," he said after the loss. "In the middle of that game, in the fourth quarter as exciting as it was? Nah."
It is expected an official announcement in this matter will be made within 24 hours.
