St. Louis Rams upbeat about competing in division – NFL News
Although the St. Louis Rams are far away from National Football Conference (NFC) West leaders San Francisco 49ers, their recent improvement in the division standings have motivated them and they are now upbeat about facing other divisional opponents to further
better their record.
The Rams spent considerable time at the bottom of NFC West, but since the Arizona Cardinals are unable to recover from their slump, they Rams have now jumped up at third spot, leaving the Cards at the bottom.
The Rams, just like the Cards, have four victories this season, but have lost six games, while the Cards have seven defeats.
The Rams were able to tie a game, and that, too, against the 49ers. This week they are going to once again face the 49ers and are hoping to further improve their impressive record in NFC West.
The Rams have so far played four divisional games. In Week 4 they defeated the Seattle Seahawks, in Week 5 and 12 they defeated the Cards, while they played a tie in Week 10 against the 49ers.
So they are yet to lose a divisional game this season, which is a commendable record because all the other teams in NFC West are very competitive. Also, the Rams have come off a 2-14 2011 season and reaching this far certainly deserves applause.
As they prepare to face the 49ers, the Rams are hoping to continue their momentum in the division going. According to the details present on the team’s website, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said:
“It’s important. Your success starts in your division. If you’re able to win most of the games in the division, then typically, you have a shot to play in the postseason. Now, we let way too many games go early, but you’ve got to compete in the division.
You have to build yourself to compete in the division. So far, we’re on the right track. We’re not there yet, but we’re on the right track.”
He said of facing the 49ers:
“They’re the team to beat in our division. We got close, but didn’t get it done the first time. This will be a big challenge for us.”
