St. Louis Rams will appoint Les Snead as its general manager – NFL News Update
A long search for St. Louis Rams seems to be over now as the franchise has finally decided to appoint Atlanta Falcons’ director of player personnel, Les Snead, as its new general manager.
According to different reports quoting league sources, Snead was one of the few final shortlisted candidates, who were supposed to meet Rams’ owner, Stan Kroenke.
The other favourable candidate was Minnesota Vikings’ director of player personnel, George Paton, who accepted a promotion from Vikings on Saturday and will now serve as the franchise’s new assistant general manager.
After that development, the only option left for Rams was Snead.
However, Rams’ executive vice president of football operations & chief operating officer, Kevin Demoff, reportedly denied offering any job to Paton.
Rams initiated a search for new personnel for its office after the regular season of the recently concluded National Football League (NFL) season, in which the franchise could only win two games while losing 14.
Rams started the season with a six-game losing streak and ended it on a seven-game skid.
Following the awful season, the then head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, and general manager, Billy Devaney, were fired.
The management decided to adopt a new strategy of brining a veteran coach, who would be supported with a relatively younger general manager to provide a mix of talent and passion.
Former Tennessee Titans’ head coach, Jeff Fisher, was appointed as the new head coach and now after the decision to appoint Snead as general manager, the Rams are expected to focus attention on the upcoming NFL drafts.
While lauding Snead’s adaptability, Demoff said that he could be the ideal candidate for Rams as he has spent time under many senior general managers.
Demoff commented of Snead:
"He has a great ability to work well with others. He's survived a lot of regime changes.”
He added:
“The fact that he's always managed to grow and gain more responsibility with each change shows his ability to work well with others and to adapt to different situations and different styles."
Demoff further said:
“He's got a very diverse skill set, and that was something we were looking for ideally. ... We think with him and Jeff (Fisher) running our football operations, we have a chance for sustained success."
The franchise has not yet officially announced Snead’s appointment, but it is safe to assume that a decision has been reached and a formal announcement would be made within a week.
