St. Louis Rams win after five games as Arizona Cardinals get seventh straight defeat – NFL Recap
It took the St. Louis Rams five games (four defeats and a tie) to get a much-needed win as they outscored (31-17) the Arizona Cardinals to hand them their seventh straight defeat in Week 12 game on Sunday, November 25 at University of Phoenix Stadium.
The defeat also pushed the Cardinals (4-7) at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West, while the win lifted the Rams (4-6) from the bottom and took them to the third place.
It was yet another disappointing day for the Cardinals quarterback. They have already tried Kevin Kolb and John Skelton and this time it was Ryan Lindley, who failed the offence. The quarterback ended up throwing four interceptions in the game without scoring
a touchdown.
Even though the Cards had the lead at one stage, their failure on the offence and interceptions from the quarterback took the game away from them.
They started the game well and got a touchdown in the first quarter when Chris Wells managed a short run to reach the end zone.
Lindley’s interception was returned for a touchdown by Janoris Jenkins early in the second quarter to level the score. Wells got another touchdown as he rushed for 12 yards to reach the end zone, but the lead he had gained was soon neutralised when Rams
quarterback Sam Bradford connected with Lance Kendricks for a 37-yard score.
The Cards, however, still managed to take the lead as they got a field goal at the end of the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Bradford took the Rams in a leading position as he connected with Chris Givens for a 37-yard score.
Jenkins returned another interception for a touchdown, taking Rams into a commanding position. In the final quarter, the Rams got a field goal, while the Cards could not score.
In the second half, the Cards did not score while the Rams got a total of 17 points. According to the details present on Rams’ website, defensive end Chris Long said after the win:
“Our coaches made awesome adjustments in the second half. I don’t know what they did behind us but they were awesome in the second half and we stopped the run, which was huge. The first half we weren’t stopping the run efficiently enough. It was a total
game change.”
Meanwhile, Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has refrained from blaming the quarterback for the defeat, saying that result of a game is dependent on the entire team. According to the details present on Cardinals’ website, Fitzgerald said:
“We don’t ever point the finger. It takes all 11 of us to be successful on every single play. Ryan is working his tail off. We have to go out there and do a better job of helping him have success. Everyone has to take their fair share of the blame.”
Rams are now going to take on San Francisco 49ers, while the Cards will face New York Jets.
