St. Louis University High boys’ volleyball team defeats DeSmet by 2-1 on Wednesday
If you are one to find entertainment in competitive volleyball matches than you do not have to wait for the university teams to make their way to the court, rather one can find a lot of thrill by being a spectator in one of the matches played at the high
school level.
Both the girls and boys volleyball teams of the nation have taken it upon themselves to maximize their potential by showing unrivalled skill in the matches that they play. One such team is the St. Louis University High boys’ volleyball team. They were able
to extract a lot of gasps and hoots from the audience on Wednesday as they competed against DeSmet.
The match that ensued was one that was highly entertaining for the spectators. SLUH was able to seal the deal on DeSmet by winning the match by two sets. Despite the fact that DeSmet lost to their rivals by 1-2, they did not go down without putting up a
commendable fight. Each set was taken until the end and no one was sure at any point towards which side the tables would turn.
As SLUH finally grabbed the last set and started celebrating their win while DeSmet was making its way out of the courts with heavy hearts, the scoreboard told the story of the match in short by displaying the final set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 29-27.
With the win that SLUH has just had, their overall season wins have reached an impressive amount of 10 victories. These have been achieved after having gone through defeats that number two in all. If the conference record of SLUH is looked at, then it also
shows a performance to be proud of.
The number of wins that SLUH has been able to register in conference play amount to 2. These wins have been seized against suffering no loss at all.
In contrast to this, the overall season record of DeSmet is also impressive but falls pale against that of SLUH. The number of wins that DeSmet have been able to register amount to 8. These victories have been secured at the expense of undergoing three defeats.
In conference play, DeSmet’s victories and losses amount to 1 each.
The player that stood prominent in the ranks of DeSmet’s attack was Kevin Knight. He was able to keep the pressure on SLUH by posting a total of 10 kills all through the match.
“It was our first real tough match of the year and I wanted to see how they would step up, and they did,” SLUH coach Paul Scovill said. “It would have been real easy to let this one slip away, but we played with a lot of heart and a lot of guts.”
