St. Lucia on a Budget?

Question

I really want to go to St. Lucia beginning of May for about 4-5 days.

I hear its a small island, so I'm guessing 4-5 days will be enough time.

I'm 19 yrs of age and on a budget so I'd like to plan accordingly. Such as hotels, etc.

Also, cause of my age, I'm wondering what is the minimum age to get a rental car? (Also of course for a good deal)

That...and all tips/suggestions are highly appreciated.

try Sweetshaves as a place to stay it is a efficiency and it was only $47 that did not include tax  us a day the owner is also owns a taxi we found the place on the Internet  it's about 20 min from Castries

St. Lucia is not that small of an island, and its very mountainous. Last time I went I stayed for a week and still didn't get to see everything I planned to. I prefer to stay in the Rodney bay area just because of the abundance of restaurants and nightclubs, and closeness to the beach. There also is a mall and grocery store nearby. Also its actually easier and cheaper to take there public transportation, or take a taxi when needed. St. Lucia has a lot of budget accommodations, however the jazz festival is in early to mid may and prices do tend to go up then. In Rodney bay there are a bunch of affordable accommodations such as tuxedo villas, ginger lily, harmony suites, and bay gardens inn to name a few. There are also affordable places in other parts of the island. Check the St. Lucia website, they list various budget accommodations. Also figure out where you want to stay before buying your airline ticket. It's better to fly into Castries,SLU, if you are staying downtown or near Rodney bay. Vieux Fort, UVF, is on the other side of the island and far from everything. The taxi from Vieux Fort to Castries is very pricey, $60 or more and is over an hour away from Castries. If you go during the weekend make sure you go to the Friday night jump off in Gros Islet. If you need more help feel free to contact me.
