I've only heard of Marigot & Coconut Grove. I'm planning a vacation to St. Maarten and would like any advice on places to stay / things to do / bars to visit and how to plan an affordable vacation on the island from people who have been there / live there. Thank you!

Its all depends on how long and the type of accommodation you are looking for. If you want to stay on the dutch side, there are guest houses, motels, hotels, villas etc etc.

One places that is affortable and convience it is right on Marigot close to Marina is Fantastic Guesthouse. that you can walk to pier, stores, bars, bakery, drugstores etc.

at the pier there many places to eat seafood very affortable.
