St Nicholas Abbey to follow up last year’s Breeders´ Cup Turf victory at Santa Anita
Following a couple of decent graded outings early in the season, Trailblazer is making plenty of appeal. But gate 12 is not ideal by any means. Furthermore, his jockey, Yutaka Take, has not yet really inspired much confidence.
In such circumstances, one can easily expect St Nicholas Abbey to follow up last year’s Breeders´ Cup Turf victory. The 2012 edition of the Grade 1 meeting is scheduled to take place at Santa Anita in USA on Saturday, November 03, 2012.
St Nicholas Abbey has been performing consistently since the outset of this season. On his seasonal comeback at Meydan, the Aidan O’Brien-trained was second to Cirrus Des Aigles. He captured another runner-up spot at Curragh, before registering first win
of the season at Epsom in June.
The Group 1, Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup saw him take an easy 4½-length triumph. Owned by Derrick Smith & Mrs John Magnier & Michael Tabor, the 5-year-old lost momentum after an excellent win, and remained unlucky on the following three occasions.
The bay horse was third in three straight races in Great Britain. He could not spark on his latest start in France, but still no one can take the credit away from him. His consistent run throughout the season is enough to suggest that he can repeat the glory
in the Breeders´ Cup Turf.
A dozen runners have entered the big meeting, pursuing a handy prize of £1,161,290. On Santa Anita’s firm one mile and four furlongs, an exciting battle is predicted.
Trailblazer is really a smart Japanese runner, who shaped pretty well in the prep for this. But a few things including the draw are going against him. So, it would not be a great move to trust him blindly.
Point Of Entry is another big horse. The Claude McGaughey III-trained has really come up good this year, and will surely have a role to play. On the other hand, Turbo Compressor is unlikely to be dominant in this company.
Trailblazer and the in-form, Point Of Entry, are two definite threats, but St Nicholas Abbey’s camp does not need to worry. Good luck to all the participants.
