I just remember in K going around the school looking for clues that a Leprechaun left and then at the end finding a pot of gold with chocolate gold coins. I think the upper grades will have testing that day (BOO!) so I am looking for ideas of what you do for the day! Thanks

  1. You could have some of the school teachers say that they saw the leprechaun and left them a letter.  Also, how about turning the chairs upside down?

  2. Cute!

You could make all the clues on shamrocks, pot of golds and leprechaun hats that you have cut from construction paper. Make each clue relate to something that have learned in the year so far before they can get to the next clue (you could even have a couple gold coins tossed around the school or area you are doing the hunt in)

a couple clues are maybe :

A leprechaun once told me to sit in the corner but there is no corners in a ----------! that little trickster. (answer would be a circle, it could lead to say the reading circle if you have one)

I am bright and full of color, and at the bottom is a treasure! (rainbow would be the answer which could lead to the art center)

Get creative and think of stuff the kids have been learning so that your testing them while still having fun. At the end of the hunt you could have a bunch of green items in a treasure chest or you could have the pot of gold with chocolate coins. Maybe work into the scavanger hunt crafts to get the next clue such as making their own shamrocks or leprechauns, writing a short story and drawing a picture to go with it, a math sheet that thay have to count the st patrick day items in order (a row of 1 pot of gold, 2 clovers, 3 leprechauns, 4 rainbows etc)

  3. Well, beginning the week before a leprechaun leaves a letter in our room while we are gone letting us know that he is looking for a pot of gold...

(by this time I have a "pot" of gold coin candy that is waiting for us to eat on St. Patrick's day)

After we receive the letter we write back to him letting him know that we are planning on hiding our gold so that he can't find it.

** Together we brainstorm ideas of where to hide the gold where the leprechaun will not find it!

Before St. Patrick's Day we hide the gold and on the day of the children arrive to find that our room has been torn apart by the leprechaun that is looking for our "gold"...

The children and I put the room back together, and thank goodness, the lepreachaun was not able to find out gold because we had a REALLY GOOD hding place!

  4. you could hide 4 leaf clovers all over the classroom with clues on each leading to a stuffed leprachaun

  5. In my classroom, I always have the kids make a little "house" for the leprechaun to take a nap in.  Before they leave the room (for nap, lunch, outdoor play, gym play, etc.) they all leave a penny for the leprechaun.  I sneak back in, I take all the pennies away and put a "map" in the house.  The map shows a special place to locate.  I usually do it by a tree, or in another classroom or something like that.  When they get there, they each have  those gold wrapped coins waiting for them, in exchange for the pennies.  You could also do this with other candy!

  6. Well a scavenger hunt is good, but don't just do that!!! Also do crafts, draw St. Patrick's Day pictures, maybe make some premade cookies, and have the children put (green) frosting then have them bring them home to their parents!!!! It would be a great day for everyone!!!!

    Also heres two cute songs!!!

Sung to I'm a Little Teapot"

    I'm a little leprechaun

    Dressed in green,

    The tiniest man

    That you have ever seen.

If you ever catch me, so it's told,

I'll give you my pot of gold.

Wee Little Patrick( tune Yankee Doodle)

    Patrick is a leprechaun

He has a sack of gold

He hides it in a special place

    Between two stumps, I'm told

I think I once saw Patrick

Out in the woods at play

He smiled and laughed and winked his eye

    And then he ran away

    Don't try to follow Patrick

    To find his treasure sack

He'll twist and jump and run away

And he never will come back.

(sung to I'm a little teapot)

I'm a little Leprechaun short and green,

Here is my shamrock but I can't be seen,

When you pull my feather, hear me scream (everyone scream)

    I'm a little Leprechaun,short and green.

    Shamrocks, shamrocks,

    On Ireland's hills,

    Greenest of green

    Over rocks and rills

    Good luck do they bring,

    For one and all

    On St. Patrick's Day

    We can see them all.
