Stable jobs for a writer?

I have no idea what I'd like to be when I grow up, and that scares me. The two things I have serious talent for are learning foreign languages (Translator) and writing (writer of some sort). What I'd like to know is if there are, and if so, how to find any stable jobs for either of those things (ANYTHING to do with writing, by the way)?? Those are my two passions and I know I would love to pursue either one, I just fear having an unstable job..Please help in any way you can! Thanks.

Translating is in demand, especially for certain languages. The state department is always looking for translators, and Arabic is obviously in demand today. Publishers need translators to translate books.
