Stacelita to go against the red hot Emerald Beech in the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park
The Grade 1 Beverly D. winner, 5-year-old mare, Stacelita, is trying the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011, as she brings strong credentials to the 1 ¼ mile test on grass against 7 other 3-year-old and beyond fillies
and mares.
The daughter of Monsun, out of Soignee by Dashing Blade, arrived from France in the middle of the year and she has brought her top from with her.
Martin Schwartz owned and Chad Brown trained Stacelita made her first start in North American racing circuit at Monmouth Park, where she participated against the males in the Grade 1 United Nation Stakes.
The older mare showed her spunk as he cruised to third and fought for her place. She finished the race in the same position behind the winner, Teaks North, and the runner-up, Chinchon.
The race was run over a distance of 1 3/8 miles on grass on 2 July, 2011, and the winning time of the race was 2 minutes and 13.28 seconds.
Stacelita was then sent to Arlington Park in New York to represent her connections in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes under jockey Ramon Dominguez, at about 1 3/16 miles on 13 August, 2011.
There she marked her first win in the U.S, defeating the likes of Dubawi Heights and River Jetez, with a winning time of 1 minute and 57.57 seconds.
In the Flower Bowl, Stacelita will look to bloom as she goes against a not too threatening line-up of 8 female runners.
However, the Grade 3 Glenn Falls Stakes' top 3 finishers are in the Flower Bowl line-up.
The winner, Emerald Beech, defeated the pace setter, Dynaslew, and the third place finisher, Senada, in the 1 3/8 miles race at Saratoga on 5 September.
The Jonathan Sheppard trained 5-year-old mare, Emerald Beech, prior to the Glenn Falls triumph, was coming off a 2-race win, starting from an allowance claimer of 1 1/16 miles at Belmont Park, and then in the Waya Stakes at Saratoga on 10 August.
Victory in the Flower Bowl would be a fourth consecutive win. Other contestants are Distorted Legacy, Gitchee Goomie, Aruna and Deluxe, among others.
