Stacelita to produce another winner for owner Martin Schwartz in the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington Park on 13 August
The New York tycoon Martin Schwartz, owner of the 5-year-old mare Stacelita is fully hopeful that he will take home the $750,000 Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes for fillies and mares on 13 August, 2011 at Arlington Park.
The former Marine has gone on to win the Arlington Park fixture twice before, once with Angara back in 2005 and the very next year Martin Schwartz went on to claim the prize in the Beverly D Stakes with Gorella.
The French bred Stacelita will make her second start on the American soil in the Beverly D Stakes, and her last start came in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park on 2 July, 2011.
Under jockey J Bravo, the 5-year-old brown mare ran over at a distance of 1 mile and 3 furlongs on turf, and the pair settled in seventh in the 10 horse field, in the beginning of the race.
With five furlongs to go, Bravo made a move and guided the mare nicely to fourth position from seventh and started pressing the leaders with 3 furlongs to go.
She was expected to show a little extra in the dying moments of the race, but it was a flat performance at the end as she finished 3rd in a field of 10 behind Chinchon and winner Teaks North, who defeated the mare by a length.
Stacelita will be running for the first time for her new trainer Chad Brown, but the 5-year-old mare is well experienced to handle any type of pressure or race or challengers for that matter.
She has fought on the field with the likes of Goldikova, Midday and Sea the Stars, all of them have been top European runners in recent years so, a tough competition isn’t going to be the problem but it will be exciting to see what the new conditioner does
to the veteran mare.
She has finished on the money in her previous two starts, Stacelita, once in the United Nations Stakes and she also finished 3rd in the Grade 3 La Coupe Stakes at Longchamp under jockey C Lemaire.
The race was run at a distance of 1 ¼ miles on 13 June, 2011, and the final time of the race was 2 minutes and 7.66 seconds.
Stacelita last win came way back when she was 3-year-old, in the Grade 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on 13 September, 2011. She was ridden by C Lemaire as the pair took on a talented field over at a distance of 1 ½ miles. It was on grass, which was good
to firm, the pair took the race by the scruff of the neck in the final furlong and defeated Plumania and Board Meeting.
Her new trainer would be hoping for another display of brilliance at Arlington Park this weekend, and give owner Martin Schwartz his third win of the fixture.
