Stacelita winning her first race in her first appearance for Chad Brown in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes
The favourite 5-year-old bay mare Stacelita added a grade 1 win to her already stellar record when she went on to win the Grade 1 $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes on grass on 13 August, 2011 at Arlington Park.
Ridden by jockey Ramon Dominguez, Stacelita is trained by Chad Brown for owner Martin S Schwartz, the French-bred ran for the first time for trainer Chad Brown and made her second start on American Soil.
Her previous start in the United States came in the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park on 2 July, 2011, where she was the only female among 9 other males, as she finished third after a really good performance.
The Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes is part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” challenge series event, and Stacelita after winning the 1 mile 1 ½ furlong event has earned an automatic berth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
Owner Martin S Schwartz has gone on to win the Beverly D. Stakes twice before, with Gorella back in 2006 and a year before he went on to win with Angara in 2005. This was his third time with Stacelita.
Stacelita sent off as the 9 to 5 favourite to win the race, took on the field of 11 under jockey Ramon Dominguez broke well and freely led briefly on the rail, but Ramon Dominguez guided the solid black mare well enough to claim the 4th position.
Shaken over, as she spurted past the fourth to get herself into striking distance as she tracked the leaders now on 3rd position. With the gap wide open on the rail, Stacelita quickened and made way to lead well over a furlong to go.
The pair ran on well under hands and heels, as they defeated Dubawi Heights by 1 ¼ lengths. Under her previous trainer, Jean-Claude Rouget, Stacelita won her last race a year back in the Group 1 LA Coupe at Longchamp on 14 June, 2011. Stacelita clocked the
1 3/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 57.57 seconds.
Stacelita is 9 wins and 2 runners up finishes and 2 third places finishes out of 16 starts altogether, with a career earnings surpassed $2 million.
