Stacey Keating in strong contention after round one
Stacey Keating has played rather well in the first round of the ISPS Handa Ladies British Masters. She is now placed in the fourth place, right behind the English trio.
Stacey Keating was looking forward to the tournament and had expressed earlier that it is a great opportunity for her to improve her ranking on the money list and LET final players’ list.
The Australian player started the tournament with such a great performance that experts and fans were confident that she will soon move up to the top three places by the end of the round. However, her good form was not enough to propel her to the top places.
She scored a birdie on the first hole. Another birdie on the second hole was too good to continue and the fans feared that she would not be able to navigate the third hole. However, much to the surprise of everyone, she shot an eagle on the third hole.
This excellent start soon merged into routine play where she made pars on the next holes. A bogey on the seventh hole soured up things a bit. She recovered magnificently from this and shot another eagle on the ninth hole.
Fans expected Keating to continue this game on the back nine. However, here her game appeared to be a tad dull. She did open the back nine with a birdie and pricked up everyone’s hopes.
Another birdie on the 15th hole was enough to pronounce that Keating will be at the top of the leaderboard when the round is through. All these hopes were dashed on the next holes.
Keating hit a bogey on the 16th hole. Many though it was a monetary glitch and, like the front nine, she will make a comeback. The next hole saw another bogey and for many, the game was over.
Stacey Keating played a splendid game during the first round. Two eagles are a rare occurrence at such a high level tournament. Her two back-to-back bogeys spoiled her chances for a top three finish for the round.
There are still two rounds to come and the fans will see more great golf by the Australian player.
