Stacey Keating racks up second straight LET title at Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012
Australian Stacey Keating had every reason to be thrilled on the final day of Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012, as she shot a 64 on Sunday to grab a one-shot victory.
In late September this year, Keating won the last LET (Ladies European Tour) event — Tenerife Open de España Femenino — in a resounding fashion, and was confident that this time she would be able to do the
same and walk away with the prestigious title.
The Australian star posted an overall score of 266, standing a stroke ahead of her nearest rival Diana Luna of Italy, who carded an overall 267 to take the second position on the leaderboard.
It was an amazing victory in every sense as the roster featured the best of the best from Europe, whereas the crowed support was also good enough to keep the contenders in high spirits till the final moment.
The last round was the scene of a nerve-shattering battle, but Keating did not look like she was under any pressure. Having parred the first hole on Sunday, the Aussie golfer reeled off four straight birdies
to make a solid start.
She shot another birdie on the par-5 7th to post a 30 on the front nine.
On the back nine, Keating misjudged her shots on some holes, but was quick to dilute the pressure by draining three birdies on the 14th, 16th and 17th hole. She carded two bogeys
on the 13th and 18th.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the final round, Keating said she was happy to clinch her second consecutive title on the LET, and she hopes this victory is going to help her carry on in the same way in
future.
Heavily influenced by former world number one, Lorena Ochoa, who also graced the tournament on an invitation, Keating was more than thrilled when she finally got a chance to see her idol play at tournament.
“Ten years ago my dream was to meet Lorena Ochoa so standing here is unbelievable so thank you to Lorena for playing in this event,” Keating said.
Like any other LET contender, the winner was also happy with the way Europeans won the 2012 Ryder Cup, beating Americans in grand style.
