Stacey Keating regrets not scoring under par in second round at Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012
Australian Stacey Keating had every reason to be frustrated in the second round of Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 as the first-round leader could not maintain her momentum and ended up posting an over-par score of 71.
Keating was more than happy at the end of the opening round at the prestigious Chantaco Golf Club, France, as she grabbed a lead after carding an impressive 62. The lead had led Keating to believe she could remain in contention in the next three rounds, but a below-average performance in the second round put a damper on her plans to move up on the leaderboard.
Having parred the first three holes, the Aussie golfer made a sensible start, which helped her reel off her first birdie on the par-5 4th hole. She then parred the remaining holes on the front nine and posted an under-par 34.
However, on the back nine, her form slipped into a jittery mode as she faltered on most of the holes. She managed to post a birdie on the 10th hole, but that was not enough to keep her on track.
The first blow to her score came after she bogeyed the par-4 11th. Although the hole did not present as hard a challenge as some of the other holes on the front nine, Keating looked like she was robbed of her savvy approach to playing on the greens.
Letting down her fans once again, Keating carded another two bogeys on the 16th and 18th hole.
Regretting her performance while speaking to the media at the end of the nerve-shattering round, the Aussie star said she was confident and hoped to remain in contention, but conceded that she was terrible on the greens on Friday.
“It was never going to be the same day as yesterday, was it. That’s golf, it’s disappointing to not finish under par today but that’s how it goes,” Keating shared. “I just didn’t hit as many greens so I didn’t have as many birdie opportunities. You can’t be making birdies from off the green, can you, so that was about it really”.
Italian Diana Luna fully capitalised on Keating’s slump on Friday as she carded a 64 to take the first spot on the leaderboard.
