Stacey Lewis all set to lift her first major title at Kraft Nabisco Championship – LPGA Update
Stacey Lewis maintained her lead in the second round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship at the Mission Hills Course with a 3-under for 69, moving three strokes ahead of Brittany Lincicome, Jane park and Yani Tseng.
Lewis, like many of the top contenders, was helped heavily on the windless day and scorching heat with highs of 100 degrees plus, by the greens turning speedy and lean. Looking for her first win in a major, Lewis incorporated both stealth and accuracy in her precision putts, moving 9-under at the conclusion of the second round.
“My round was all over the place," said Lewis, "But I made some really good up-and-downs and stayed really patient on the back nine, and I was fortunate to get away with a couple of pars that I probably shouldn't have."
Lewis’ performance over the years has been nothing less than an extraordinary. She finished for the third place in the 2008 Interlachen, almost winning a major in her debut tournament. She is now an accomplished professional golfer, finishing 21st on last year’s money list. She is close friends with Lincicome and they are often seen travelling and dinning together. They also sometimes accompanied by Betsy King.
"I just feel like I have a really good group of people around me now," Lewis said.
There’s, however, a more humane side of the future champion, which remains hidden from the usual hustle of the media. Her recent visit to Rwanda, where she mingled with common Rwandans to experience firsthand knowledge of their suffering, made her realize the many facets of life on the planet.
"I saw things (in Rwanda) I never thought I'd see in my life," Lewis said. "It was such a shock to me that people live the way that they do, but they are so happy and so grateful. It just makes me grateful for everything that I have, and it gave me a renewed purpose of what I'm doing out here. The better I play golf, the more I can help other people, the more I can inspire other people."
World number one, Yani Tseng shot a 68 while Lincicome settled for 72. Michelle Wie shot an impressive 67 for the day’s best performance. The next round will determine who will be the eventual winner.
