Question:

Stackable washer/dryer leaking?

Our stackable washer dryer combo has been leaking periodically. Since it does not happen every time I'm puzzled. It's not a leaking a lot either. You can just see the concrete underneath and surrounding a few inches is wet. No puddles or anything.

Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be?

  1. TOO much soap or the wrong kind, front loaders use only high efficient soap.

  2. A couple of things to check:

Your drain pipe (plumbing) might be slow. This could typically leak when you do a large load or after several loads. The easiest way to check is to wrap a paper towel around the top of the drain pipe where the drain hose goes in. If you have a leak and the towel is wet, you have a plumbing problem. If it is dry the problem is with the washer.

You could have something in the pump causing it to drain too slow (or you sealed the drain hose to the drain pipe and your plumbing cannot let it drain fast enough). The pump itself may also be going bad. This will allow the washer to start to spin before all of the water is out of the tub.

The washer may be spinning too much when it is agitating. The tub will typically rotate about an 8th to a 16th of a revolution with each stroke of the agitator. If it is more than that, the water will tend to whirlpool over the sides. Mainly with a large load. If this is the case, your transmission would need to be replaced. Check you warranty. It's a very costly repair.

  3. My washer was doing the same thing. I ran the washer  watched, listened, and discovered my washer drain was just a tad slow. I use some drain crystals called Drain-out from Walmart. I just put 3 spoonfuls of Drain-out It stopped the leak.
