Stacy Lewis: Efforts finally pay off
Almost all the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) big guns were at Naples, Florida when the 2012 Tour season reached its final climax at the CME Group Titleholders
two weeks back, but Stacy Lewis overshadowed everything.
The CME Group Titleholders roster was packed with plenty of talented golfers, and that included world number one Yani Tseng, American Paula Creamer and South Korean Inbee
Park.
Lewis might have failed to finish inside the top ten at the season-ending tournament, but it was a job-done case for her as she had already recorded four wins and a total of 16 top-ten finishes.
After a hectic year that saw Stacy Lewis finally walk away with the most prestigious title of the year—Rolex Player of the Year—several players put their best feet forward, but only a few
had the courage to take their campaign to the next level.
Lewis said in her latest interview that during the 2011 season, she had never thought that she would be able to end her victory drought, let alone become the Best Player of the Year.
Lewis said that after she won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April 2011, she knew that she could take the heat to the next level. The victory at Kraft came as a huge surprise to the American
star as she had been battling a protracted winning drought since her triumph at the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship in September 2007.
“Not a lot of people expected me to end the drought. ... I've never been the longest, the tallest, the biggest or the most athletic. I just had to work and figure out a way to get it done,"
Lewis said before starting the CME Group Titleholders 2012 in Florida.
Having failed to do her best in the 2012 season, Yani Tseng has looked weary and a little rattled in recent past and while she ended the LPGA season on an unpromising note, her stakes have
become higher.
As for South Korean Inbee Park, who picked up Vare Trophy and topped the LPGA Official Money List for the year, things are now on a smooth path and the young gun has set her sights on the
tournaments in the next season.
