Stacy Lewis: From a low-key contender to the Best Player of the Year
American Stacy Lewis can proudly say that she has put together a very impressive professional career so far, but the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) phenom knows that her dream
to become the world number golfer is yet to be materialised.
Lewis, who has become the top-ranked American golfer lately, is taking something she learned from some of the LPGA giants and applying it to her game. If the outcome is anywhere near as good,
the resilient golfer is going to be an accomplished player on the Tour in the next season.
The American star might have received a low-key reception at the start of the 2012 season, but a few had been able to anticipate that she was going to dazzle the whole lineup. And she did
what she had sworn: putting America back in the spotlight.
Lewis shared her thoughts during one of her recent interviews to the LPGA Tour, saying she went through a lot of trouble this season as she had been struggling to make a name for herself in
the United States, not to mention the global scene.
“I've been the underdog the whole way. I was overshadowed by Michelle at Q school and I think that pressure that they have, I didn't have that on me. I didn't have all the expectations everyone
else had and I think that's really helped me get to where I am,” said the 27-year-old star whose fans are now seeing her as the next world champion.
“I like working hard. Some girls like to do all the extra stuff off the course and the sponsors things and this and that, and I just love to go out and play golf”.
When it came to the number of wins, Lewis has overshadowed every player—even stars like the current world number one Yani Tseng and Inbee Park of South Korea.
En route to becoming the Best Player of the Year, the LPGA titan had to deal with stiff competition—but she held her ground and kept all the rivals at a distance. She fully concentrated on
her short game, which helped her improve her putting and swing as well.
Lewis’s efforts have paid off nicely, and she can now fully focus on her next goal, which is to topple Yani Tseng from the number one position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
When she was playing the US Women’s Open in early July this year, she had been troubled about her form and locking horn with Tseng was certainly out of the question. However, she gained much-needed
confidence following the US Open debacle that saw her finish tied for the 46th position.
Lewis surprised her rivals and fans when she finished tied for the second position at the Evian Masters in late July. After that, she seemed unstoppable and quickly surged to the second position
in the world rankings.
