Stacy Lewis can give a tough time to Asian rivals at Evian Masters 2012
American Stacy Lewis, who finished second in the last edition of the Evian Masters, is gearing up to face rivals at the 2012 edition of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament.
Lewis, who is performing well in the current season as she has racked up two titles so far, is being regarded as the hot favourite for the prestigious tournament, slated to be staged from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France.
With Asian players improving their positions at a fast pace in women’s golf, it has become very crucial for Lewis to maintain the reputation of American contenders. The American prodigy has managed to boost her confidence in recent events, and now she is ready to further consolidate her position.
Currently ranked third in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, the LPGA titan has what it takes to keep moving ahead.
Analysts said that Lewis’s performance in the last edition of the Evian Masters reflects that she is likely to become the star performance once again, provided she does not repeat the same mistakes this time.
Another important factor upsetting American golf fans is the ascendancy of Asian players on the LPGA Tour. At the Evian Masters 2011 too, the title was snatched by an Asian player.
Japanese Ai Miyazato, who is one of the rising golfers in professional circuit, grabbed a 2-stroke victory after she fired an overall 273.
Analysts pointed out that it will not be easy for any American player to end their winning drought, as Asians, especially South Koreans, are in high spirits. South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who won her first major title at the US Women’s Open 2012, has already qualified for the prestigious tournament, and is expected to repeat what she did at Kohler.
Despite a formidable field that will feature most of the top-ranked Asian LPGA stars, Lewis is expected to stay calm on the course, as she has learned to play in the most difficult conditions recently.
The 27-year-old golfer kicked off the 2011 Evian Masters in impressive style, as she shot a stunning 69 in the opening round. Lewis came close to outperforming Miyazato, but making errors on some of the holes kept her from grabbing the coveted title.
