Stacy Lewis can maintain upper hand in 2013
American Stacy Lewis and South Korean Inbee Park have been in the headlines lately thanks to their phenomenal performance and massive achievements, but South Korean Jiyai Shin has emerged as a fast-learning contender.
Shin has stunned fans after clinching two LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titles in late 2012, which reflects that she is a resilient competitor, jockeying for the top spot.
Although Stacy Lewis currently rules the leaderboard in terms of Best Player of the Year 2012 and prize money, rising stars Inbee Park and Shin are definitely not resting on their laurels and look set to reach the top spot in coming days.
Given the recent events, rivalry between current world number one Yani Tseng and Lewis drew more attention than anything else. However, Tseng’s shiny veneer of invincible performance was scraped off in most of the later tournaments, leaving her struggling
to retain her top spot.
Despite facing deep dents in the 2012 season, which saw her finish poor in some of the key events, Tseng still stands firm at the number one position in the world rankings.
Park had vowed to rout her nearest rivals on the LPGA money list but her below-average performance in some events sealed her fate to become the Best Player of the Year.
On the other hand, by winning the money race devoid of any real challenge except for Park’s resistance, Lewis appears to have further tightened her grip on the game and seems unstoppable. She is expected to keep the momentum going in the 2013 and has also
vowed to topple Tseng from the top spot.
Lewis retained her solid position thanks to consistency and hard work. Most importantly, her last win in the Mizuno Classic 2012 helped her position herself in a much better situation, keeping her game in shape.
She grabbed a one-stroke victory against South Korean Bo-Mee Lee in Japan. Despite a formidable field, she held her nerve in all three rounds.
Overall, 2012 has been the most momentous year for the American LPGA star. She not only won the Best Player of the Year, but she also racked up four victories—something that has helped her overshadow most of the big names in women’s golf history.
