Stacy Lewis confirmed to grace Kingsmill Championship 2012
World number two Stacy Lewis has confirmed her commitment to take part in the upcoming Kingsmill Championship 2012, scheduled to be played from September 6-9, at Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia.
Lewis took part in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, held last Sunday at the Vancouver Golf Club, and performed well. However, she could not capitalise on the support given by Canadian fans and good course.
The American star kicked off the first round in decent style as she posted a 72. However, her best performance was seen in the third round as she made perfect putts on almost all the holes and registered a 66, strengthening her position on the leaderboard.
“I think you finally saw some nerves there at the end. I think she finally realised what was going to happen and we've all been there and we know those feelings,” she said at the end of the fourth round that saw her card a 72.
Stacy could not win the title, but she said she was happy to see Lydia Ko clinch her first LPGA victory. She added that she had a few words with Ko, appreciating her performance.
“I was just, what are you doing next week, is your mom here, and just kind of asking her basic questions. And she thanked me afterwards, but it was an honor just to get to watch her, so I had to say thank you to her,” the golfing sensation shared.
Lewis might have failed to carry on her magic form in Canada, but her game looked as perfect as it has been in the last several tournaments.
Having started the 2012 season in grand style, Lewis can pose a serious challenge to past winners of Kingsmill Championship.
According to the officials of Kingsmill Championship, two past winners, Cristie Kerr of the United States and South Korean Se Ri Pak, are the players who have grabbed much of the attention — even before the start of the tournament.
Analysts said that the Lewis’s aim will be to make as many birdies as she can, and avoid bogeys — something important to remain in contention till the final moments of the event.
Lewis has been in nerve-jangling competition against current world number one Yani Tseng, and is seeking to rise to the top spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. So far, her efforts appear to have paid off as she has finally embarked on her mission to become the most successful golfer on the LPGA Tour.
