Stacy Lewis donates generously, Razorback golf team beneficiary
Stacy Lewis, the world’s number two, has announced a donation of $100,000 to University of Arkansas.
Stacy Lewis is a 2008 graduate of University of Arkansas and she has fond memories of her association. She announced the donation at a press conference, which was also attended by Shauna Estes-Taylor, who coaches golf at the university.
The university confirmed the news and announced that the amount will be utilized in extending the golf program at the university. A part of the donation will be used to improve Razorback golf training facilities.
Stacy Lewis will take part in Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G. The event is being hosted by Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas.
To honour her pledge, Lewis has to achieve the fourth position on the leaderboard at least. While she aims for top positions, a fourth place would give her enough prize money to come good on her announcement.
This is an emotional moment for Lewis. She came to University of Arkansas with the intention to play golf. After three months of signing the letter of intent, her conditions worsen.
She had been diagnosed with a scoliosis condition earlier. She used to wear a brace to contain the problem. Lewis underwent surgery and then rehabilitation.
Throughout this time, the university was particularly supportive. Lewis played her amateur years on the university’s team and went on to have a great pro career.
Talking at the news conference, Lewis recalled, “I would not be where I am if I had gone to any other university. I signed a letter of intent in November and found out in February I was going to have surgery. I couldn’t swing a golf club at the time with
no guarantee I would ever play golf again and they gave me everything I needed to recover”.
Lewis will be up against the world’s number 1 and two-time winner of the event, Yani Tseng. Other players include ShanShan Feng, Suzann Pettersen, Ai Miyazato and Cristie Kerr to name a few.
The event has already drawn a great deal of publicity and many fans are looking forward to a great golf tournament.
