Stacy Lewis fails to perform well at Incheon
American Stacy Lewis posted an overall 217 at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 to finish tied for the 33rd position on the leaderboard.
Lewis, who currently ranks second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, kicked off the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea, in impressive style as she was among the key contenders in the line-up.
Despite having a solid record and vast experience, Lewis could not impress the South Korean spectators. She shot a 72 in the first round on Friday to make a sluggish start.
With most of the top-ranked contenders having recorded huge scores in the first and second round, Lewis was found struggling with her strokes, as her putting was not good enough to help her score big.
The first round saw the American star card two bogeys and two birdies.
Lewis, since she retook her second position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, has been regarded as the best player in the United States.
That is why the fans wanted her to display her best performance in South Korea — a country whose players are giving a tough time to the Americans these days.
Throughout the second round that saw her card an unimpressive 74, the LPGA phenom struggled with her driver, missing several good chances that could have earned her a good position on the leaderboard.
She carded two bogeys, one double bogey and two back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th hole.
Lewis has been the most stunning player in the current season, having grabbed three titles so far. This reflects that she is not going to walk away without putting up a tough fight and is capable of repeating her magical performance in the coming tournaments.
South Korean stars, who were confident to win here at Incheon, could not stop Norwegian Suzann Pettersen from rising to the top of the leaderboard.
Pettersen beat Scottish Catriona Matthew by birdying the third extra hole of playoff. The Norwegian star shot a 63 in the first and 68 in the second round to make a solid start.
“Not that it was extremely windy, but it was a little different yesterday, and it kind of took me a few holes to kind of adjust, and it almost took me nine holes to kind of adjust to the conditions,” Pettersen said, while speaking to the media at the end of the second round, on Saturday.
