Stacy Lewis finishes tied for second at Evian Masters 2012
American Stacy Lewis, who had got her hopes up about winning the Evian Masters 2012 after she played the first two rounds, was not that happy when she saw South Korean Inbee Park walk away with the coveted
LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) title.
Lewis gripped the audience’s attention at Evian-les-Bains when she kicked off the tournament, but she regretted how she let her South Korean rival walk all over her in the fourth round.
Lewis might have got off to a solid start in the Evian Masters 2012 in an amazing style, but other players were quick enough to make the spectators shift their focus in the last two rounds.
Pumped up due to a stunning start in the current season, the American star kicked off the Evian Masters 2012 with plenty of confidence as she posted a 63 on the first day. The score in the opening round was
big enough to put Lewis in a much stronger position than most of the other contenders in the roster.
However, she started to lose her momentum when she moved into the third round. Inbee Park, who also put pressure on her rivals by posting a good score in the first two rounds, managed to improve her position
on the leaderboard and came face-to-face with Lewis for a pitched battle.
Commentators said that the American prodigy was pretty hopeful about a good finish as she fought hard right from the start of the LPGA tournament. They said that if she had played a little more sensibly in
the third round, she would have grabbed a title with ease.
The 27-year-old professional golfer could not stick to her plans in the third round and ended up carding a 73. In the fourth round, she registered a 68 in a bid to atone for her mistakes, but could not make
a dent at all.
Park posted an overall 271, and recorded a two-stroke victory.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the tournament, Lewis said that she was happy with her performance in the opening round, but could not keep it up in the next rounds.
“I actually played really good. I had probably four or five putts that I thought I made and just lipped out. Just couldn't really get anything going, and then finally at the end to make some birdies,” the
runner-up said.
