Stacy Lewis fires 276 to finish 11th at Ohio
American Stacy Lewis, who was one of the hot favourite contenders for the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, carded a decent 66 in the fourth round to finish tied for the 11th position on the leaderboard.
Lewis got off to a sensible start at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 as she knew that all eyes were set on her. The American star was expected to stand firm against her Asian rival, but her dream to bring
the title back to the United States could not materialise as a couple of mistakes in the third round made her lose confidence and she ended up posting an overall score of 276.
Lewis displayed a good performance in the first two rounds, which led the analysts to predict that she would further boost her position in the final two rounds. However, her plan backfired when she saw South
Korean So Yeon Ryu, Chella Choi and American Angela Stanford pick up pace making huge scores.
Although the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titan carded a good score in the fourth round, other contenders were quick enough to bounce back making it difficult for Lewis to make it to the top
10 on the leaderboard.
She kicked off the last round with plenty of confidence as she vowed to atone for lapses. The rising star recorded her first birdie on the difficult par-3 second hole. After parring three holes in a row she
carded a bogey on the sixth hole.
On the back nine, the world number two golfer tried to rebound as she drained four birdies and avoided carding a bogey.
Speaking to the media the end of the LPGA tournament, Lewis said that she was seeking to do something amazing on the course this time, but a few mistakes in the final two rounds put her in trouble.
“My goal all week was to get over the creek in two, and I finally did. It was nice to finish out the week strong. I struggled all week, but things came together throughout the day and I just finished it off
really good,” the 27-year-old American said. “Any time you shoot a low number on Sunday, you just hope you're in contention and have a shot at winning. So just drag momentum into next week and keep playing good”.
