Stacy Lewis firm to move ahead, as she performs well yet again
American Stacy Lewis, who is playing well in the current season, proved her worth yet again after she fired a 64 in the final round of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012 and tied for the 5th position on the leaderboard.
Lewis is a rising star and has been seeking to grab the top spot in the world rankings. She kicked off the 2012 season in an impressive style and kept her rivals at bay in most of the events.
With competition becoming more and more intense on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, most of the American players have tumbled to lower positions in world rankings in recent years. However, Lewis appears to have come quite closer to her
primary goal in recent months, which is, to seize the number one spot in the world.
Currently ranked second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Lewis struggled through the years to put herself in the spotlight in pro golf. She first grabbed attention in the 2011 season, when she won her first major title at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
She was stunning in the major tournament, as she trampled the current world number one Yani Tseng. Tseng has been one of the most battle-hardened contenders on the LPGA Tour, but the American star easily cut her down to size when they came face to face.
Regarded as one of the most colourful and capable golfers in the sport, Lewis has managed to dispel doubts about her slumping performance in the 2012 season. She stunned her fans by racking up two professional titles.
Analysts say that the superstar has now managed to come out as the most influential player, as she has learned to play in the most nerve-racking situations.
For instance, in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic 2012, the golfing sensation looked as if she was immune to making mistakes. She displayed a stellar performance and gained a 4-stroke victory — something that helped Lewis eclipse the popularity of most of the
big names in women’s golf.
Her journey to success did not halt there, as she recorded yet another title for the season. She struck fear into her rivals, especially top-ranked ones, when she outplayed Aussie Katherine Hull at the ShopRite LPGA Classic 2012. It was nothing short of
amazing, because Hull was sidelined by a 4-stroke margin.
Lewis’s phenomenal performance in recent LPGA tournaments has triggered concerns of players like Yani Tseng and Suzann Pettersen. Lewis must have had a big sigh of relief after she cut Pettersen down to size in terms of rankings.
Pettersen currently ranks fifth in the world rankings — something even the Taiwanese Tseng expressed her concern over, when she was asked about a sudden shift in the top positions.
Commentators also seem to agree that Lewis has what it takes to beat any strong contender in the world, and she has shown it in recent weeks by jumping to the second position.
The latest event of the 2012 season, Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, reflects how tactfully the talented player is moving ahead. Although she could not win the title, grabbing the fifth spot on the leaderboard is enough to keep her momentum going.
“I'm pretty excited. It's going to be a busy week, but I love getting back home and playing in front of my -- my family and friends will all be there. It's such a fun week for me,” Lewis said.
“I was talking to Travis, every year we go back, it gets better and better and it's crazier and crazier, so it's no telling what it's going to be like”.
