Stacy Lewis grabs lead in the second round of Mobile Bay LPGA Classic
Stacy Lewis played amazingly well in the second round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, as she fired a 67 to grab the lead.
Lewis, the American professional star, was standing tied for the 5th at the end of the first round after posting a 68.
However, she improved her score by a point on the second day, surging past the first-round leaders, Lindsey Wright, Jennifer Rosales, Caroline Hedwall and Katie Futcher.
The American star looked completely fired up, as she played calculated strokes on most of the holes. In addition to a good course, the weather conditions were also favourable.
Lewis was stunning throughout the day, but a bogey on the 18th took its toll on her position on the leaderboard. Analysts said if the blemish had been avoided, she would have boosted her score further, because the hole was quite easy.
Another major change on the leaderboard was seen when Karin Sjodin of Sweden bounced back in the second round.
She was standing tied for the 50th place at the end of the opening round. She shot a stunning 64 to tie for the 2nd.
Lewis kicked off the round with plenty of confidence, as she avoided making lousy putts. She parred the first five holes and went for her first birdie on the par-5 6th. On the front nine, she was standing at 35, with no bogey and one birdie.
The American surprised the spectators on the back nine, as she shot five birdies and one bogey.
Speaking of her stellar performance at the end of the round, Lewis said that she just played her natural game, which really worked.
“I think it's mainly ball striking. I wasn't really hitting as many shots close and on the green as I would have liked, and we really worked and I got just really comfortable with where the ball's going right now,” the 27-year-old American said.
She added that she has been slightly troubled since the start of the current season, but the recent event is different.
“I think it was really one of those weeks. I had a lot of stuff going on and just I think mentally I was just ‑‑ I was kind of not there. So I feel a lot more relaxed this week and I just kind of chalked it up to being a bad couple days and just kind of
moving on”.
