Stacy Lewis leads the Evian Masters with 63 in round one
Stacy Lewis had a great day at the Evian Masters. She played an excellent game and was at 63, the leading score of the day.
The day proved to be very interesting as Lewis led the leaderboard with her magnificent performance. This score of 63 includes her seven consecutive birdies, an astonishing record, even for a player of Lewis’s calibre.
The streak of birdies started on hole 5 and lasted till hole 11. Then when everyone was thinking that the show is over, Lewis scored two more birdies on holes 17 and 18.
This outstanding performance got her a 2-stroke lead over the second best player of the round, Hee Young Park.
Talking about her birdies, Lewis said, “I didn't really have anything going the first few holes. I don't know what changed or clicked. It was just one of those days where you get into this rhythm. I was more happy to finish with the two birdies than even
the seven, just to get some momentum going into tomorrow”.
Lewis was not the only player who was on top of her game in the first round. South Korean star Hee Young Park was at the second position with a score of 65. She also got lucky with birdies during the first round. She fired five straight birdies on the front
nine.
World’s number one Yani Tseng scored a 4-over par 76, a dismal performance at best. Despite a new caddy and her insistence that her rough patch is over, Tseng did not play her usual game during the first round of the Evian Masters. Experts said that she
could up through the ranks in the second round of the tournament.
The defending champion Ai Miyazato from Japan was at one–under par 71. She performed way better than some well known players who were below Miyazato in the rankings after the first round. Currently, Miyazato is at the 24 position which she shares with 13
other players.
The first round proved to be very exciting as many stars failed to perform well and many upcoming players managed to occupy the top slots. The game is still open and the next round will decide who will make or miss the cut in the tournament.
