Stacy Lewis leads the second round of the Evian Masters
The second round of the Evian Masters is over and the scoreboard shows some surprises. The biggest one was Stacy Lewis, who managed to maintain her lead in the event with a score of 69.
Stacy Lewis again played an excellent game in the second round and managed to retain her lead, despite challenges from the upcoming players. The amazing thing was the continuation of Lewis’ excellent form.
Her score of 69 included three birdies, two bogeys and one eagle. Lewis started the second round with a three-stroke lead.
On the fourth hole, she scored her first birdie. On the seventh hole, she played her best game and scored an eagle. This good form was slightly marred by her bogeys on holes 12 and 14.
Lewis recovered her game on the very next hole and scored a birdie on the 15th hole. At this point, it was very clear that Lewis will lead this round as well. She clinched her lead by scoring her last birdie on the 18th hole.
Talking about her performance in the second round, Lewis said, “Today was actually a little bit more of a struggle for me. I wasn’t really sure how I would play coming off a good score yesterday”.
This outstanding performance is a clear indicator that this year, the Evian Masters belong to Stacy Lewis. She came very close to winning the event in 2011 and finished at the second position. The defending champion is Japan’s Ai Miyazato.
South Korean player, Il Hee Lee is in the second position with a score of 67. She started the second round rather well, playing steadily through the course. She performed great, scoring five birdies in the second round. The first birdie came on the 9th
hole.
Lee started hitting her string of birdies on the 13th hole. She scored consecutive birdies till the 16th hole, adding another four birdies to her score. This game is a serious threat to Lewis, who only has a 2-stroke lead after the
second round.
Evian Masters will enter its third and final round. The going will get tough for both Lewis and Lee.
