Stacy Lewis puts Americans back in spotlight
American Stacy Lewis, who put the American stars back in the spotlight after winning the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, will remain under scrutiny as the star golfer gears up to participate in the upcoming Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012.
After battling for survival on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour for months, American players can now have a sigh of relief as their fans also came to know that Asians are not as invincible as they had thought.
Although Asians tried their best to rise to the top at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, a fiery Lewis and Lexi Thompson held their ground and remained in contention throughout the four days of the tournament.
Thanks to the win, Lewis has once again taken the second position, pushing South Korean Na Yeon Choi down to the fourth.
Overall, Asians still appear to hold the whip hand as they have won 14 events so far in the current season, but Americans have now decided that winning is the only way to grab the spotlight.
With the latest victory on their profile, Americans have been able to notch six titles so far in the current season.
Observers have said that despite Lewis having done well in the last tournament, Asians will likely come hard on their American and European rivals.
They said that one reason for this is that there are plenty of South Korean contenders currently playing on the LPGA Tour. Asians outnumber Americans — but that has not kept Lewis and Thompson from proving her mettle.
“I mean, after I won in Atlantic City, I definitely blew all my goals out, that's when I became the top American. I had won a couple times, those were kind of my two main goals,” the American star said at the end of the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
Mostly, American efforts in the season have fallen short as the last major victory (Ricoh Women's British Open 2012) was also clinched by a South Korean golfer.
Jiyai Shin, one of the strongest South Korean stars, inflicted a nine-stroke victory on her fellow South Korean Inbee Park to win the British Open 2012.
Despite a string of defeats in the last two seasons, Americans can relish the latest success at Prattville, Alabama.
