Stacy Lewis ready to record second straight victory at Bay Course
Stacy Lewis, who won the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic last week, is gearing up to take part in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, slated to be played from June 1-3, at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club.
Lewis is one of the hot favourite contenders for the $1.5 tournament, as she says that winning the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic has given her tremendous confidence.
The American star appears to be in a good form, as she said in her interview at Crossings Course that she is going to focus more on her putting in the upcoming events.
She said that winning the prestigious event is going give her an edge over most of the contenders.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic was her second professional LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour victory — something analysts said will help her keep pressure on lesser-known players, if not the big names.
Turning professional in 2008, Lewis has been a prominent figure on the Tour. In addition to proving her mettle in professional events, the American prodigy showed her skills in the amateur circuit.
She surprised her fans in the 2007 season, when she won the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship. She had been pretty solid on the course.
Analysts said that although the field at the ShopRite LPGA Classic is going to be far stronger than the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, Lewis has what it takes to trouble players on the course.
Her biggest achievement in pro golf was winning the major tournament, Kraft Nabisco Championship — a feat that helped her eclipse the popularity of most of the big names in women’s golf.
“It was huge. When I won the Kraft, I came from behind there and I've never ‑‑ I think the last time I had the lead was the U.S. Open maybe? I think U.S. Open in 2008 and played horrible there, so it was huge for me just to get off to a good start and just
to kind of keep things rolling,” she recently said, in one of her interviews.
The field for the impending confrontation at Stockton Golf Course has already been confirmed.
Some of the most competent players are: the current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, defending champion Brittany Lincicome, Katherine Hull and I.K Kim.
